THE BOYFRIEND SHORT

SHORTS, boots & SUNGLASSES: topshop - blazer & bag: vintage - belt: primark - top: zara
Photography by Megan Ward

I saw a similar style short to these on instagram a few weeks back and could think about little other than how I was going to get them on my body, right where they belonged! So, I proceeded to do what I do best and stalk the entire internet and every store that I could find until I came up with a short that would fill that denim void in my life.

You're probably thinking, "hey it's summer, surely finding a pair of denim shorts would be a simple enough task" . . .  well you're wrong! I searched high and low and could come up with little (no pun intended) other than hotpants and glorified knickers! Which I wasn't exactly feeling, largely because flashing in public just ain't my kinda thing . . . not any more at least.

Anyhow, long story short (ya see what I did there), I finally bagged this pair from Topshop, which, minus a few rips and a little distressing are exactly what I was on the hunt for. I'll wear these with a boyfriend sweater, trainers and a top knot on those days when heels won't suffice.

INCOGNITO

boots, dress & top: topshop - bag: vintage
Photography by Megan Ward

Megan and I took a few quick snaps of this look on Friday evening, just before heading off to St Anne's cathedral for the Ulster University graduate fashion show. I took the safe option and dressed in all black and ended up with this somewhat robber-esque look.

The show itself was just amazing (as expected), the location, designs and atmosphere left me feeling pretty inspired (and a little scared), for next year, when it'll be my graduate collection strutting down that catwalk.

THE BACK UP PLAN

shoes: topshop (old) - jeans: asos - tee: h&m (old) - coat*: target dry - bag: vintage
Photography by Megan Ward

Don't you just love it when you can finally wear your fave sandals without freezing half to death and subsequently contracting frostbite!? . . . yes, me too. But then the weather does a complete u-turn and you suddenly find yourself battling gale force winds and rain showers of biblical proportions.

If you're not from Ireland or the UK then you probably have little empathy for the difficult task that 'dressing for the weather' can be. You wake up and the sun's blazing in the sky, so you do a happy dance (obviously), throw on the smallest clothes you can find and waltz out the door like no-ones business. An hour later it's pelting down, and you're doing the walk of shame whilst the local 'know it alls' mutter under their breath about how they "hope they get the weather you're expecting". I've done that shameful walk on several occasions, so when local company Target Dry asked if I'd like to choose a piece from their collection, well, who was I to say no!?

I went with this very classic piece, known as the Cheltenham. And besides being totally gorge, this coat is windproof, waterproof and just great quality. So basically every girls back up plan to the unpredictable weather that us Irish folk have the displeasure of dealing with.

You can check out target dry's full website here. Do have a look, not just because their products are fab quality, but because supporting local business is super important.

BLACKED OUT SPRING WEAR & APOLOGIES

jacket: primark - dress: zara - top: topshop - trainers: lacoste @asos
Photography by Megan Ward

God have I missed blogging!!

Now that's said I'd like to start off with an apology. I know it's become a bit of a regular thing here on Style Stack, I don't blog for ages, then I begin with my "sorry I haven't posted in so long apology", and you guys are probably bored of hearing it!! Understandably. But in all honesty I'm kinda sick of it myself! Blogging is my absolute favourite thing to do (besides family time that is) and ever since I began over two years ago, I've rarely gone a day without checking out your lovely comments and the little clicks I've gotten that day, and lately I just feel like you guys are getting a bit of a raw deal. You come to visit, and there's nothing new for you to view. So let me explain why.

These past few months of my life have been super hectic. As well as being a mum and studying for my Bachelors in textile art, design and fashion, I have undertaken a fashion buying and merchandising course (which I couldn't pass up on after winning a scholarship!) and to add to the mix, both courses are a lengthy drive from home (2 & 4 hours each way). As grateful as I am to be able to add to my education, these jam packed days just burn me out, forcing me to put Style Stack on the back burner (no pun intended). Which leaves me feeling a little deflated, and totally baffled at how other bloggers manage to maintain a blogging routine alongside their busy schedules. So I'm kinda hoping that you'll stick around whilst I figure that one out.

Now that's been said, I'd like to thank you guys for continuing to visit, even if it is just to roll your eyes at my lack of posting.

Hope to post soon,

P.s this jacket! I've been eyeing up the all saints balfern for months now, but am forever deterred by the price tag, so when I spied this little beauty in PRIMARK (yes, who'd of thought) I decided it would be the perfect substitution. So, it'll do . . . for now.

FINDING DIRECTION

Those of you who've been following my blog for some time will be aware that December/January are very quiet times around here. And instead of boring you with apologies I thought it'd be nice to show you why.

So here it is. A fraction of my first semester hand in, designed and made by me. I was aiming to design something that had the essence of masculine tailoring with a hint a femininity. I can't say that I'm entirely happy with my work as I'm still striving to find my "direction" within design. But I'm hopeful that six months from now that will all be very clear.

So, what do you guys think? Would you like to see more of these types of posts?

ANDROGYNOUS

coat: H&M (last year) - trousers: asos - shoes: Nike @office - sweater & bag: primark
Photographs by Megan Ward

Dark winter mornings have been rolling in good and fast, and although it's not something that I'm entirely happy about, I have been glad of the coat worthy weather that came with.

I was becoming bored with the coats I already had in rotation and craved something full length and androgynous, when I recalled this H&M beauty that I clocked eyes on when it was released last year. I added it to my shopping cart and mmm'd and ahhh'd over it for the following weeks. Subsequently missing out and kicking myself for my lack of spontaneity. So I did what I often do in this situation . . .  trolled eBay, hoping it would make an appearance in my size, which it eventually did. And this time (without hesitation) I completed the purchase.

It's super cosy and swooshes when I walk . . . batman appeal is an obvious bonus.

P.s this bag! £8 from Primark, looks much more expensive though, don't ya think!?

PRIORITIES

Dress: minkpink - jacket: asos - boots: topshop - watch: michael Kors
Photographs by Megan Ward

Another simple outfit I wore a few weeks back. I'm still super busy with uni, which you've probably gathered from my lack of posting! Third year will kill me if these past few weeks have been anything to go by. . .

That said, I still managed to make time for a lengthy hair appointment. Priorities.

MULE'N

Dress: topshop boutique - mules & coat: primark - socks: topshop
Photographs by Megan Ward

I know . . . I know! I'm the worst! To be honest I don't know how it happened. A day, a week then two and now this. It was all so quick, I didn't have time to think about what I was doing to you . . . to us!

Forgive me . . . please!? I promise never to leave you like that again. I'll blog more . . . I swear!.

Okay, maybe that was a little dramatic. But sincere.

I'm going into my 5th week at uni (second year fashion design and textiles for those of you wondering) and my feet have barely touched the ground! My life has become a constant stream of travelling to and from uni, lectures, tutorials, seminars, work and finding time for my little boy, my partner, our dogs and a very clingy cat. I've been busy, to say the least. But I'm slowly getting into some sort of routine and am determined to post regularly again.

Wish me luck! Post soon (at least I hope!)

SCHOOLIN WITH F&F

boots: F&F - skirt: red herring at debenhams - sweater: H&M - jacket: asos
Photographs by Megan Ward

Getting back into the swing of uni can be a bit of a shock to the system. But nothing could soften the blow quite like a nice little influx of A/W items.

Like every savvy fashionista, I've spent some time searching for the perfect coat and boots to see me through this seasons harsh weather, and although I've yet to decide on the coat, settling for the boot was an easy choice . . . yes, I saw you eye up my new shoes, and your thinking "but how can a student afford those gorgeous Givenchy-esque boots!?" You see these fab boots aren't Givenchy, but in fact a purchase from the very new (and very fabulous) F&F online clothing store, which is finally available here in Ireland!

You can check out the new site here, and if you're in need of a little inspiration, have a look at the "how you're wearing it" section here.

P.s did I mention that the boots were only €25!

PLEAT'N AROUND

Skirt: red herring @ debenhams - shirt: topshop - cap: asos - backpack: primark - trianers: nike @ office
Photographs by Megan Ward

I've found myself drawn to anything pleated lately.

Flowy pleated skirts (midi, maxi or bum skimming minis) with oversized knits will be my A/W uniform. However, I'm a little unsure how I'll achieve this without seeming repetitive . . . that said, a band tee and a biker jacket might work equally well.

What will you be wearing this season?
